About us

Tricky Goose is a small company based in Brisbane, Australia.

We care deeply about the quality and reproducibility of research, and our mission is to make research training that promotes rigour, transparency, ethics, and integrity.

We help institutions promote compliance, but our courses are not about compliance. We’re more scholarly, and frankly, more fun.

FAQs

What’s with the name, Tricky Goose?

It’s just a bit of fun. We started this venture because we didn’t like the existing research training courses that buried important research topics in the language of corporations and compliance. Research is a playful and curious thing, and we wanted a playful name. We take research quality very seriously, but we don’t take ourselves too seriously.

Can you make a course for my specific country or region?

Yes. Research integrity and ethics are global issues, even if different regions are governed by different codes. Our courses are all designed with a global mindset, so we can adapt them quite easily.

How do customisations work?

We can change almost any part of our courses to suit your institution. When you license one of our courses, we provide a basic questionnaire to get you thinking about the changes you’d like. We then make those changes for you. Easy! It usually takes about three weeks.

Why do you have a licence model?

Designing engaging multimedia courses is time consuming. By licensing our core content to a number of different institutions, we can charge less than we otherwise would to any single institution. This model also gives you confidence that we’re incentivised to continuously update our courses as the research sector evolves, since we crave good reviews and return business.

Are you developing new courses?

Absolutely. One thing we’re excited about is a new course we’re developing called “Handmade supervision”, which is for new supervisors of PhD and Masters students. Supervision is hard! This course will help. We’ve also designing a course about academic integrity called “Good Scholarship”.

Do you have anything we can use for free?
